Instinet announced big changes to its top executive ranks today. The company appointed Fumiki Kondo and Anthony Abenante as new co-chief executive officers.
Kondo was previously managing director of Nomura Securities International and executive vice president of Nomura BlackRock Asset Management. Abenante previously served as managing director for U.S. Equity and Global Program Sales and Trading at Nomura.
In addition, Instinet named Thomas Vogel Chief Financial Officer and Kevin Farrell will serve as Chief Administrative Officer.
Hiromasa Yamazaki, who currently serves as Head of Global Equity, has been appointed Chairman of the Board. The company is working with former Chairman Ed Nicoll, to stay on as a special advisor.
John Fay and Alex Goor, Instinet’s former co-CEOs, will be leaving the company to pursue other interests.
Although executives were not available for immediate comment, an Instinet spokesman issued the following statement: "The combination of Instinet's agency execution tools and ATS platforms with Nomura's global presence is an extremely powerful one in today's rapidly evolving global securities market. Given Nomura's commitment to this combination and the Instinet brand, management felt that after several months of examining the complementary offerings of the two businesses the timing was right to bring in a CEO tandem that could further strengthen Instinet. We believe this move is in the best interest our clients, and the firm remains fully committed to all global initiatives that Ed, John and Alex have led Instinet upon."
